The crime, thieves, doctors, birds and animals is a funny combination. And when Police and justice system joins it, it's a riot. Fun never ends!
Don't you believe me? Let me take you through this wild side of justice journey.
Honesty doesn't always pay in this world
In New Mumbai, recently a thief gatecrashed a pre-wedding event, feasted on the spread that it had, loitered around and found car keys of SUV lying on some table. He picked it, went outside, opened the car only to find a treasure trove of Rupees 14 lakhs worth gold jewellery, stashed it at his home and quickly returned, faithfully to leave the keys back on that table. Ever heard of any thief doing this? That's when he was caught by the car owner, handed over to the police who recovered the stolen wealth. Car and jewellery back to the owner, honestly. But wheels of justice have rolled on.
Hospitals spring surprises (surgeries)
In Kota, Rajasthan, this month, a man went for a surgery while his 60 years old partially paralysed father, Jagdish Panchal, waited out. Later, when a nurse announced Jagdish to come, unknowingly he responded, was taken i into the operation theatre, doctors quickly administered anaesthesia and began a medical procedure. Only after a surgical incision was made on him, doctors realised there was a mix up. Some other Jagdish was to be operated.
When his son came out of the operation theatre, to his horror, he found his father was a victim of mistaken identity. Poor Jagdish Panchal had to go through plastic surgery (this time, a real one) and some other treatment. Last it was heard that a medical negligence case has been filed against the doctors and the hospital.
As if hospital horror wasn't enough, now corridors of Court.
Guys, be careful. If you hear someone is calling your name be it in a hospital, hotel, police station or even by a female in the street, don't just respond. Nasty surprises await you.
Now, let's move forward : Love of Camel
One Mohd. Shariff of Karnataka was so fascinated with Camels that he named his house as Camel House. Probably, I am not sure, he must have also been smoking only Camels cigarettes!
Deep in love with camels, he went to Rajasthan, bought a camel with a calf and brought them all the way to his hometown in Karnataka. That was in 2015-16. As per a report which appeared in The Hindu (Bengaluru) edition of December 2016, as always, Animal Rights people protested - how can he have camels in Karnataka as there are no deserts, and some other complained that Shariff is likely to sacrifice them on Bakri Eid.
As usual, the police packed the animals to an animal shelter and a case was filed. But Shariff didn't give up easily; he fought the legal battle for a few months and got the Camels released. They were malnourished-not all cattle eat the same grass, and needed treatment. He tended the animals and was planning to send a huge bill to the Police. That's what any ‘Sharif' (honest) man should do - fight for his rights.
Now enters a buffalo:
In July 2024, when the Village Panchayat in Uttar Pradesh (UP) failed to resolve a dispute, between two parties, over the ownership of a buffalo, the Pratapgarh Police in UP used a novel method. It asked the buffalo itself to choose its owner. Just like the police, she took a while to investigate in her own inimitable way, and then decided who her masters are, rather whom she owns, by standing next to one party, and delivered her judgement. After a photo session for records, police swiftly closed the case.
How I wish some lessons are learnt by the Courts.
I wonder if this was the first case under The Indian Mediation Act, 2023 coming into the force 🫣
Competition : A parrot flies in
Just like Buffalo with the power of identifying humans or testifying in a case, unlike humans who either refuse to give evidence or scared of giving one, a two legged with wings followed the suit. In a sensational murder case, sometime in 2014 in Delhi, a brave parrot, seeing police aren't able to catch the murderer, gave testimony to the court ( not exactly though) but repeatedly screamed the name of deceased person’s nephew whereby, the deceased’s husband asked police to interrogate him. Bravo! the nephew confessed having murdered his aunt. And there the culprit goes to spend a lifetime in a cage basis help of a caged parrot ( No. Not the infamous CBI which courts labelled it a ‘caged parrot’).
Monkey fled with the evidence, Really! Hilarious! 🤣
Yes. A few years back, in a sensational missing person’s case where the missing person was later found murdered. The police in Jaipur, Rajasthan, collected as many as 15 pieces of evidence including the murder weapon. The case went on and on, as these always do, and one fine morning, the Judge asked police to produce the evidence. And there, the secrets or skeletons tumbled out - the police claimed that a bag containing this evidence which was kept under a banyan tree, because there was no enough space to keep in a store room, is untraceable, and most likely, some monkey fled with it.
The Court got furious, ordered inquiry only to find that the person responsible for safe-keeping the evidence had retired from service, and died. It appears now the police have been tasked to sort this “monkey business” out.
Now, you are free to help the poor police, if you want to. To register, drop ‘Yes’ in the comments. 😉
A Judge and iPhone:
Just like a batsman cleverly steals a run in a cricket match, a petty thief recently snitched iPhone of a Judge, who had gone to watch Indian Premier League [IPL] cricket match at a Mumbai stadium. It appears based on the Judge filing a FIR, the police, unlike on a common man's complaint, swung into action. This action was certainly as fast as Jaspreet Bhumra's bowling. Doesn't matter.
Seeing this report in the newspaper, I guess, the thief might turn in to return the phone with a request that there should be a visible statutory warning for thieves to know who is a judge or a VIP. The other probability, many are discussing, is that the thief, while voluntarily returning the phone would say, “Sorry. It was a mistake as I thought it was an Android phone, as I hate iPhone.”

Ashok, the hospital story is great, but it's also very true. I know people who are having surgery on a part of their body, and are so afraid that the doctor will make a mistake that they use a black magic marker to write on their body and indicate both the spot and what the procedure is supposed to be. If you've ever been in Montefiore hospital's Emergency Room in the Bronx, you'd know why that marker is essential.
😜 all the stories were amazing sir how do you collect stories?
Oh my favorite one was the parrot flies in 🦜
