Wednesday’s Brew: Coffee Dilemma

A weird one!

Now, I know 'some people' out there (yes, looking at me in the mirror) have made fun of calling Wednesday as Sandwich Wednesday and written about it. Sneaky Sara, a Fellow of Substack, then proclaimed it as Weird Wednesday and attributed inspiration to me. A rare distinction!

So, last Wednesday, I did something daring, picked a jeans, pink T-shirt and a cap ensemble, stepped out for coffee with a friend. Not a weekend brunch, not a Monday survival meeting, but a midweek coffee. And guess what? Wisdom, it seems, had taken the day off, and I didn't order a sandwich😉

I was ushered to a cozy table under a tree. It was cool and breezy there. I ordered my coffee (yes, still torn between Latte and Mocha, my life’s unsung dilemmas), coffee arrived but not my friend.

Obviously, the café was not so buzzing but with a perfect cross-section of humanity:

A young couple, trying to whisper sweet nothings, but failing at whispering;

A group of not-so-elderly ladies, laughing like teenagers, weaving stories that could make a stand-up comic blush; and

A boys squad, after bunking classes and avoiding going home, locked in serious debates on some silly mobile game, cricket match, and in between, sprinkling pearls of wisdom on fashion - shoes, belts et al. Boring.

And my favorite. Yes. A group of loud, hilarious girls, giving serious live commentary on life, college, love, and bags.

I realized, this isn’t just my city’s café scene. This must be at every café, from Mumbai to Madrid, New York to New Delhi.

Different accents, same human stories — love, dreams, regrets, and yes, some world-class gossip.

And, while I am still figuring out was it a Latte or Mocha that I had ordered, here’s a little Wednesday Wisdom (or lack thereof) I walked away with:

"Coffee with Wisdom on a Wednesday doesn’t wakes you up."

Perhaps, a coffee on Saturday at a Cafe (or just Saturdays), brews conversations, memories, lots of fun and chatter, and those little moments that remind you life isn’t just a to-do list but a table-for-two with a view of the chaos is better to soak-in.

So, to all the "Wednesday is Weird" fan club members, you’re right, but maybe that’s the fun of it?
